MUSIC HOUSE PHILOSOPHY/VERY SUCCESSFUL
composer philosophy:
Always listen to the clients objectives. He is
the one you must satisfy. After all, you are a gun for hire. If you want
to follow your own direction, stay a song writer /producer. You must
paint in the lines you are given. Ofcourse, they hire you for what
you do and what you bring to the project.
Special projects: I have always found that the projects that allow
me the most freedom, are the most rewarding. Although, I have also
found it to be creative when the lines are tightly drawn. For
instance, if they ask for jazz, or give an example of a piece they
find suits
there ideas.
I have loved working on projects that have a blank page. they
are particularly challenging. Campaigns ive worked on for Dr. Pepper,
and Kfc come to mind. I not only created the music, but the lyric as
well as the slogan. I find Im very good at coming up with concepts.
Claim to fame: I have been involved with many classic advertising
campaigns. SOMETIMES YOU FEEL LIKE A NUT, OH WHAT A

Commercial neds dance music
Hey, Wendell,
I know we¹re still waiting to hear the results of the latest
meeting. In the meantime, I wanted to ask you about something else.
I just shot a spot where we¹re having real people strut down a
runway, as if they¹re in a fashion show. Except they¹re not‹they¹re actually
real people who were waiting for their bags at the airport, and we just
grabbed them and sent them down a runway.
I wondered if you might have anything in your library that would be a kind
of fashion-y, runway track. As inspiration on the set, we played
³Supermodel² and ³I¹m Too Sexy² and ³Vogue². So something in that
genre--fun, that people would strut to.
If you¹ve got anything, could you send it my way? It would be for a national
campaign.
Thanks!
Package
Wendell,
I sent the package of music, bio, discography, etc. late last week. Let me
know when you get it. Hope you enjoy.

Classical composer
Not to open this back up for discussion, but I am a conductor for orchestras and i do notice that most of the people in my orchestra are white. But I can say that I know plenty of black people who play beautifully and read beautifully. i work out of Boston mostly with the occassional new York concert. Music programs are shrinking all over the country. All kids need to learn to read music more. None of us are masters of anything.
I would love to get a chance to score some commercials. Does the author of the 30 30 career ever talk on this blog?
If so, how do i collaborate with you and send you some of my work?
Johnathan Willis

Truce!
All you guys sound like you're broke. You know it's always broke people who complain in this world. Get some money in your pockets and the we'll see if you're still whining. I thought I came to this blog to hear about how I can find some more producers to collaborate with on commercials.Let's call it a truce! Anybody interested?
Sal G
here we go again!
Everytime black people are good at something, someone always says it has to be natural as if we can't practice and learn things like everybody else.
HT
whatever!
I'm complimenting black people. I'm saying that black people are naturally good at music. That's why they are so ggod.
SalG
I'm not white, I'm bi-racial
Stop getting your underoos wet HT. My dad is black and he reads music. He taught me.
SaL is just mad because he probably lost that Coca Cola commercial because of that wack producer he was working with. He probably didn't have no hits anyway and that's why he won't tell us his name.
Dan
Indiana
Hold up SAL G
Hold up! what do you mean black people don't read music! I'm black i read. As many great black musicians as you see in bands on the Grammy's and on tv, you don't think Black people read. I hope you're not black saying that!
HT

Record Producer Tales
Commercials are easy. I don't need samples. I can make anything. I play guitar, piano, violin and trumpet.
I've done 6 national commercials. I don't need samples. i grew up playing instruments and i'm a producer myself. You need more than a chair too Sal G. Plus I read music.
Dan
Indiana
Producer Seat
That's a stupid question. If you were good you would alreeady be a producer. All you gotta do is get your chips up and by a chair. But if you can't afford a chair, you ain't ready to produce.
Real Talk.
SAL G
Record Producer Tales
I went over this producers house to collaborate on a track for Alicia Keys and he couldn't play any instruments.
I was like damn., I should be going down as producer on this joint, NOT him! Sometimes i hate being a side musician for these non-plying producers who want you to make everything for them. I'm like damn, can you make anything on your own?
How do i get to sit in the prodcer seat?
Manny
Queens
record producer tales
samples went out a while ago. He must have been a old school producer. Who was he?
RECORD PRODUCER TALES
I told this hit Record producer I needed hot beats and they were due in two days by noon. But I told him i need to hear it before I submit it in case I want you to add something to the beat. He was like "bet."
So I call a day later to see how the progress was going and I couldn't get him on the phone. I called about 6 times during the course of the day and left mesages for a call back. He emailed me and said "don't worry I got you."
Two hours passed the deadline comes and goes. Finally at 6 pm, 6 hours passed the deadline, I get a call from the record producer as if everything is great. He says that he just emailed me the tracks. I called the agency and asked if they would listen to a few more submissions. they were very reluctant but when i told them who the producer was, they changed their mind.
So I hurried and set up my computer to email these tracks. I saidd to myself, "Let me just listen to them just in case this dude sent me some wack tracks. And low and behold, they were real WACK! I thought to myself, "he must have emailed the wrong tracks" cause these hip hop tracks sounded like a beat with training wheels!
I listened back to his hit tracks and realized that all the songs he had that were hits used samples. And since I told him no samples whatsoever, he turned into a wack producer and was exposed for being wack! Yo, if you can only make hits with samples, you may never get a check in the advertising business.
I didn't even bother turning in the tracks to the agency. I'm glad I did my own version.

When is the release date?
Hi, Wendell!
My name is Gina Davis, a graduate from Film & Media Arts in video editing.
Presently, I am learning to write music (hip hop, rock, pop, etc.,) for tv
commercials. Upon reading an article (Band Aid) in the December's issue Remix
magazine about your book, "The 30-30 Career: Making 30 Grand in 30 Seconds" I was
wondering when is your release date. Your website and your interview with
allhiphop.com motivated & encouraged me to to take my music further in different
directions other than dealing with the fickle music industry. I live in
Philadelphia, Pa and right now and I working in Reason, Ableton Live, and Digital
Performer on my laptop at home to do music and it is kind of hard for me to move to
New York or California to pursue truly a career in video editing and commercials.
Needless to say, I am very anxious to read your book and get started. I hope all is
well with you and your career. Your response will greatly be appreciated.
Best Regards,
Gina Davis

sick of timbaland takin' all the money!
TimbaLand makes too much damn money doing records!
Labels act like he's the only one that can make hot tracks!
I've been trying to get placements for the last six years and everyone says my beats are hot. I did a track for a major artist that was supposed to be on the album, and then found out that my spot was taken by Timbaland.
I'm sick of the record industry. I'm trying to do commercials now. At least i know I won't be competing with Timbaland. Now, so what if Timbaland is proven, a hit maker. So! I'm not sweatin his stuff that much, especially his synthesizer tracks for Nelly Furtado and his solo album. I'm sick of Timbaland.
I'm trying to make 30 grand per commercial in the commercial industry. It sounds like this is the place to get it poppin!

you and your company in the near future.
I absolutely love the world of music branding for film, television, games,
advertising, corporate branding, etc.
I know you're very busy, but I'd love to talk to you when you have time.
Thanks,
Ric

Wendell,
Thanks for your article in Dec Remix. It couldn't have been more timely for me. As
the new year approaches, I'm looking to expand my workload to encompass more
commercial and composition for hire. Your article was super inspirational and
motivational to me. As a multi-instrumentalist and degreed composer with some solid
rock record producer/writer/arranger credits, I know I've got the "goods"; I just
need to present myself in the right way to the right people. It's time to stop
sitting on $50 grand of gear making records that will never be
printed/released/marketed in the physical realm....
I've looked every couple of days on AuthorHouse for your book to no avail.
I'll buy it the day it's released. Please let me know!
Cheers,
Brent Meyer
BTW - BRILLIANT work! I think I listened to every sample on Volition's webpage.

Hey,
I read your article in remix? magazine (which was very interesting),?and have always
been wanting to get into doing music for commercials, tv, etc. I've been
producing/making music for about 9 years and am now 22. I've done everything from
hip-hop, to house, to lounge, to drum n bass and?more. I taught myself to play keys
and also played trumpet throughout grade school. Anyway the reason I wrote is to ask
about your book and if and when it will be in stores, I'm very interested in picking
it up. If you get a chance let me know the release date of it and where I can buy it
from. Thanks!
