place an order for it?, also how did you start in your career, i just need a push in
a direction that will take me somewhere, i want to be a composer/producer but i dont
know who to go to or who to contact for this kind of field. Everyone keeps telling

speaking at Brown

Dear Mr. Hanes,
This is Nate Sloan, a senior at Brown University and head of the Music Department
Undergraduate Group (or DUG). Shep Shapiro got in touch with me concerning the
possibility of your visiting Brown this Spring for a lecture/talk. After checking
out your work and your experience, I am hugely excited about the prospect! Your
accomplishments are impressive in their own right, and I think your visit would be
invaluable as far as introducing students to a career that lies somewhere between
the conventional niches carved into music field. Also, part of what we're trying to
do with the DUG is to create links to Music alumni, and start to get students
thinking and inpsired about life after Brown. So thanks again for offering to come!

As for the details of your visit, Shep mentioned that April might be a good time. We
can work around your schedule to find a date that works. I think that a weekday
afternoon would be desirable, because more students might turn up than on a weekend,
but again--whatever works for you is best. At the bottom of this email is a link to
the music department calendar if you want to see what days are already busy with
events.
As for the format, I was thinking that you could give a public talk, for which would
do a lot of publicity and emailing to try and draw a big crowd (I think your work
will be something people will be really interested in). I was also hoping that you
might also consider scheduling a time that you could meet with a small group of
music concentrators, students looking to go into music after graduation who would be
grateful for personal feedback and advice from you. Let me know if you'd be
interested in this.

Sorry for the long email-I may have gotten loquacious in my excitement. It's a real
privilege to be organizing this event, and thanks once again for your interest!
Look forward to talking with you more,

female composers

Lisa Gerrard is one of the front runner female composers in the industry. She co-composed major feature films Gladiator and Ali. There are lots of female composers in the scoring field. You will do great in the field with great music.

The 30-30

female composers

My name is Shannon,

I am a female in a male dominated business. Most people think that you can hear the difference between a males production and a females production and I don't believe that is true. Scoring is not like sports. How many females are scoring in this business?

the 30-30 on scoring

There are multiple aspects of scoring covered in the book. From structure, to approach, to attitude, to instinct. It's a skill that is never truly mastered as you can assume since music is so subjective. What did Tupac say again? He was discovered by the very young daughter of a top music executive. You never know who decides on what is bought on a commercial, a film or tv show, but you have to please the right people even when you don't know who the "right people" are.

Once reading the chapter you will have a great idea how to get it done.

The 30-30

I'm looking for the book

WHere can i find the book? I was also wondering what kind of things will be in the book. Like I wanna know how to learn scoring to picture. I've been watching tv more and more and I've been listening to spots.
What kind of content can I expect?

steal your job!!

Hey Wendell,

I'm a big fan, I've read everything you wrote, and well, I think I
would love to steal your job. I'm 21 years old now, and the creative juices are
just flowing nonstop lately. I think after I get out of school, the only way I
will keep from going insane, or be productive at all, is to create music. It's
completely taken over me. I've been a musician for about 10 years now and play
a variety of instruments, but I know nothing about digital synthesizers and
recording technology. Do you have any recommendations on where a broke student
can learn about using this sorta stuff? I'd like to send you some of my music,
see what you think about it. Anyways, you've been a big inspiration to me, and
you're indeed a wonderful writer. You tell it from your heart, and I appreciate
your insight. I'll do whatever it takes to be able to create music for a living,
it would be a dream come true. Anyways, I look forward to hearing from you. Take
care Wendell.
